When Following God Gets Hard | John 6:60–69 | Pastor Michael Naylor

What happens when following Jesus becomes difficult?

In this powerful and challenging message, “When Following God Gets Hard,” Pastor Michael Naylor takes us through John 6:60–69, where Jesus' teaching became difficult for many who had been following Him.

Their response was:

“This is a hard saying; who can understand it?” — John 6:60 NKJV

Jesus didn't change His message to keep the crowd. And eventually Scripture tells us:

“From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.” — John 6:66 NKJV

Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked a question every believer must eventually answer:

“Do you also want to go away?”

Peter responded with one of the great declarations of faith in Scripture:

“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” — John 6:68 NKJV

Following God isn't always easy.

There are times when His Word challenges us. There are seasons when His plan doesn't make sense. There are prayers that aren't answered the way we hoped. There are roads we never would have chosen for ourselves.

And sometimes we simply don't understand what God is doing.

But faith isn't always knowing why.

Sometimes faith is knowing Who—and deciding that's enough.

Peter didn't tell Jesus, “I understand everything.”

He essentially said:

“Lord, where else would I go?”

We invite you to worship with us at Pittman Grove Baptist Church — The Little Church with a Big Heart for God.

If you're walking through a season where following God has become difficult, we pray this message encourages you:

Keep following.

When you don't understand—keep following.
When the road gets steep—keep following.
When others turn away—keep following.

Because Jesus Christ still has the words of eternal life.
